The New York Rangers have their opening day lineup set for when they take on the Los Angeles Kings on Friday afternoon in Sweden, and as expected, it doesn’t include Sean Avery, who was reassigned to the AHL’s Connecticut Whale after failing to make the team out of training camp, or Marc Staal, who was placed on injured reserve with post-concussion symptoms and does not yet have a timetable to return.
The team also announced that they have recalled rookie defenseman Tim Erixon, just days after sending him down towards the end of the preseason. The former first round draft pick was acquired in a trade from the Calgary Flames during the offseason after failing to come to a contract agreement with Calgary, and is expected to make significant contributions to the Rangers blueline sooner rather than later.
