In the latest development of the sordid scandal of Jerry Sandusky, the former Penn State assistant football coach accused of over 40 counts of sexual abuse of children, Sandusky’s bail was set at a mere $100K and subsequently met, meaning that Sandusky is now free before his eventual criminal trial and will only pay if he fails to show up for the court proceedings.
The decision by Judge Leslie Dutchcot shocked prosecutors and the public, and it was later revealed that she had been a volunteer and donor to Sandusky’s charity, The Second Mile. An organization whose stated mission was to help and provide guidance to underprivileged boys, it’s believed that Second Mile was used by Sandusky as means to get access to his victims by targeting young and vulnerable boys with checkered family lives that would make it easier to get away with the abuse.
Meanwhile, Dr. Jack Raykovitz, Second Mile’s CEO of 28 years, resigned on Sunday.
