Detroit Pistons: Season Preview

2010-11 Record: 30-52 (missed playoffs)

Key Additions: Brandon Knight

Key Subtractions: Richard Hamilton, Tracy McGrady, Chris Wilcox

2011-12 Record Prediction: 22-44 (12th in Eastern Conference, 4th in Central Division)

Bold Prediction: Greg Monroe wins the Most Improved Player Award.

Thoughts: We're getting to the phase of team previews where I just become incensed that incompetence is rewarded with contract extensions and second chances. Starting with his acquisition of Allen Iverson in 2008, Joe Dumars has been the worst general manager in the NBA—and that's including the aforementioned Ed Stefanski and Timberwolves GM David "Mr. Draft Three of the Same Position and Hope One Pans Out Every Year" Kahn. People forget that instead of an $8 million buyout, the Pistons could have acquired actual pieces for Richard Hamilton before last season's trade deadline. The only smart thing about the Hamilton buyout is that it gives the team the opportunity to use the amnesty clause on one of the Charlie Villanueva-Ben Gordon $90 million pu-pu platter.
