Kyle Kendrick, Phillies agree on one-year deal

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Kyle Kendrick avoided arbitration on Friday by agreeing to a one-year, $3.585 million deal with the team. Kendrick served as a spot starter and long reliever in 2011, and could be slotted into that role again this season. However, given his effectiveness out of the bullpen (3.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP), he could also be a candidate for the setup role to closer Jonathan Papelbon.

Kyle Kendrick signed a one-year deal with the Phillies Friday, avoiding salary arbitration.
