Lions' Matthew Stafford wins Comeback Player of the Year

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was hoping for a Super Bowl ring this season, but this isn’t so bad either. The third-year pro, who played just three games last season due to a shoulder injury and just 10 in his rookie campaign of 2009, was voted the NFL’s Comeback Player of the Year, reports SI (the award will not be formally announced until February 4).

Finally healthy, Stafford started all 16 games this season and put up some of the finest numbers of any quarterback in the NFL. He was third in the league in passing yards (5,038) and touchdowns (41), fourth in TD/INT ratio (41-16), and fifth in quarterback rating (97.2) and completion percentage (63.5). And of course, he led the Lions to their most successful season of this century, guiding them to the playoffs for the first time since 1999.
