Dennis Rodman: An Awesome Hall Of Fame Addition

Yesterday afternoon it was announced that this summer, Dennis Rodman will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. As a huge of the NBA, I am very happy about this decision for several reasons.

Rodman's behavior is so outlandish and bizarre, that at times it feels like it overshadows his on-court accomplishments. But what Rodman did during his 14-year NBA career will probably never be duplicated again. He earned NBA All-Defensive First Team honors seven times, won two Defensive Player of the Year awards, and led the NBA in rebounding for a record seven consecutive years. Most importantly, he is a true winner, collecting five NBA championships with two different teams (the Pistons and Bulls).

Rodman's game was far from glamorous; he averaged double-digits in scoring just once during his career. But to this day, he is one of the most feared rebounders and defenders the game has ever seen. At 6'6", he was extremely undersized for a power forward, proving that pure effort and toughness can allow a player to overcome physical obstacles.

So maybe some people will only remember Rodman for his hair, piercings, and tattoos. Or maybe for his relationships with Madonna and Carmen Electra, for his professional wrestling career, and of course, for wearing a wedding dress to promote his autobiography. But now, Rodman will forever hold his place in the history the NBA, and no one will ever be able to look past that. Just don't except the most conventional Hall of Fame speech.
