The most important plays of the Giants' season

In a countdown of the ten most pivotal plays of the New York Giants season, there are a few common — if unsurprising — themes: Victor Cruz, the the Dallas Cowboys. Cruz was responsible for the play that completely turned the Giants’ season around, a 99-yard catch and run in Week 16 against the Jets with the Giants backed up on their own 1-yard line and facing a 3rd-and-10. He shows up on the list two additional times, once for his 44-yard touchdown in the final regular season game against the Cowboys, and again for his touchdown catch against the Eagles. But none matched the excitement or the importance of his record-setting scamper against the Jets.

The Cowboys show up two additional times on the list as well, including the second-biggest play of the year, Jason Pierre-Paul’s game-saving field goal block in the Giants’ must-win Week 15 game. After Dallas kicker Dan Bailey’s first successful attempt was wiped out by a “Tom Coughlin timeout, the Pierre-Paul burst through the line to get his hand on the second attempt, preserving the Giants’ three point-lead and effectively ending the game.

Other notable entries include Hakeem Nicks’ Hail Mary grab at the end of the first half in the playoff game against the Packers, and Jacquain Williams’ strip of San Francisco punt returner Kyle Williams in overtime of the NFC Championship to set up the game-winning field goal.
