Expect Lions to Pursue Cortland Finnegan

Cornerback is an obvious position of need for the Detroit Lions as NFL free agency nears, and one person to keep on is Tennessee Titans- corner Cortland Finnegan. A six-year veteran, Finnegan has spent his entire career with the Titans and was named to the All-Pro team in 2008, but is not expected to be brought back by the team after stringing together some mediocre seasons over the past few years and having a .

Finnegan would actually fit in quite well with the Lions’ in-your-face style of play; he is a very aggressive player and has a history of on-field incidents for unnecessary roughness, including a fist fight with Texans receiver Andre Johnson in 2010. While that might scare some teams off, Jim Schwartz has cultivated an atmosphere in which players are encouraged to play on the edge. And at 28 years old, Finnegan should still have several productive years ahead of him. His expiring contract paid him an average of $4.2 million per year in salary and bonuses, which is about what he could expect to receive again on the open market.
