Reportedly the Knicks have come to terms with free agent guard J.R. Smith. While terms of the deal are not yet available, speculation is that the Knicks were able to use their mini mid-level exemption ($2.5M) in order bring the former Nugget in to the fold. There is no question the New York now has collected the talent in order to make a deep run. Smith was also rumored to be in the mix for the Lakers, Clippers, Pacers and Magic. The Knicks now have upgraded their bench, will most likely continue to use Iman Shumpert to come off the bench and play the point, while Smith can play a more traditional role of shooting guard. The question that still remains to be seen is, once Carmelo Anthony can come back from his groin injury, will there be enough basketballs to go around for everyone to get their shot?
