Do You Believe In Lin Now?

HANG TIME HEADQUARTERS – How much more do you have to see? What else will it take to convince you that Jeremy Lin is more than just a passing fancy?

And no offense to Mavericks guard Jason Terry (who does have the hardware that allows him to say whatever he wants), who called the Lin story “hype” before the Knicks knocked off the reigning champs Sunday at Madison Square Garden.

“I think it’s a lot of hype right now,” Terry said. “Is he going to be a good player in the future? If he continues to work he will, but again, given the opportunity he’s taken advantage of it, but everybody’s making a lot out of the seven games he’s played. I’ve been in the league 13 years, so seven games doesn’t necessarily make a career, but he does have great buzz. We’ll see when he faces the champs.”

Well, it’s a little more than “buzz” now.

Lin looked pretty good facing the champs down and leading the Knicks to the win with 28 points and a career-high 14 assists (yeah, the seven turnovers are a problem but a part of the deal right now).

But with his size, skill-set and the offensive system Mike D’Antoni runs, Lin couldn’t be a better fit for a Knicks team that was starving for the right fit at point guard. In eight starts Lin is averaging 25.0 points, 9.5 assists, 3.6 rebounds, 2.2 steals and shooting 51 percent from the floor and 71 percent from the free throw line.

He’s been at his best in the biggest moments and has ye to play with Carmelo Anthony since he broke into the Knicks’ starting lineup (if the reports about Anthony returning to action tonight are correct, we should get a good look at their chemistry when the Knicks face the Nets).

Even Terry’s tune had changed by the time Lin was finished working the Mavericks over.

“He’s a tough kid and he showed that [today],” Terry said.

Tough enough to be the long-term answer for the Knicks at point guard?

That’s what it looks like from here. What say you?
