Cleveland Browns

The Browns tried to bottom out last season to move into position to draft one of the elite quarterbacks in the draft. However, in true Cleveland Browns fortune, of the possible four franchise quarterbacks who were supposed to enter the draft (Luck, Griffin III, Barkley, L. Jones), only two did. They were certainly in striking distance to to land RGIII, but wisely decided that the price was too much to beare for the second overall pick. Mike Holmgren is definitely trying to usher in a new crop of his guys, which couldn’t be more evident than by releasing guard Eric Steinbeck and giving up on wanna-be NOC Peyton Hills.

Cleveland clearly wanted to address their defense this offseason—specifically their defensive ends—by signing Frostee Rucker and Juqua Parker. Parker, who is in his 11th season, received only a one-year deal while Rucker, who was part of the Bengals deep defensive line rotation. received a five-year, $20 million deal ($8 million guaranteed).

Cleveland also retained CB Dmitri Patterson and didn’t break the bank by doing so. Patterson does give them some depth in their secondary along with Sheldon Brown and Joe Haden. Now the Browns enter the 2012 with two first round picks, and the best player on the board at No.4 could WR Justin Blackmon, which is a position where Cleveland sorely needs help.
