Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson: Arena deal is dead

The Kings won’t be getting a new arena as of now, and there is enough bad blood between the Maloof family and the city to start a small scale war in Sacramento. The question now is whether or not the league will step in and force a sale to a third party, or facilitate the franchise to be relocated, perhaps to Seattle.

The Kings arena deal is officially dead. After two days of talks between city officials and the Maloof family, Mayor Kevin Johnson announced today it became clear there were “irreconcilable” differences between the sides over the financing plan for a downtown sports facility.
