Ronde Barber has been been lining up at the free safety position in practice for Greg Schiano’s Buccaneers this week and things have been going well. So well in fact Barber said he’d start there if there was a game this week.

It looks like Charles Woodson isn’t the only future Hall of Fame cornerback who may be moving to safety this season. Ronde Barber, who has gone to five Pro Bowls in his 15 seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has been practicing at free safety at the team’s OTAs this past week, and could be there permanently when the season starts. Tanard Jackson manned that spot last year for Tampa but signed with the Redskins as a free agent, and with the addition of former Lion Eric Wright, plus Aquib Talib and E.J. Biggers, the Bucs now have a wealth of talent at corner.
Mark Barron should ready to start from Day One at strong safety, and the Bucs feel confident in moving the wily veteran Barber over to a spot where his declining speed will be less of a factor.
