Jets to face rough schedule at the start of 2012 season

The New York Jets face a relatively easy schedule in 2012 based on last season’s results (20th out of 32 in terms of strength), but their early games could make or break their season. The Jets face Buffalo, Pittsburgh, Miami, San Francisco, and Houston in the first five games, and Buffalo in particular figures to be much improved after last season. If New York gets off to slow start then they could be in a serious hole in their quest for a playoff berth. On the other hand, if they can come away with 3 or 4 wins, they’ll be primed for a division title.

The New York Jets are taking a quieter approach to the offseason in 2012. There are no more Super Bowl guarantees and the chest thumping that earned them the title of “OTA World Champions.”

That’s a good thing. New York needs to keep all its focus on starting fast against a brutal early portion of its 2012 schedule. A slow start could ruin the Jets’ entire season.

Here is the list of opponents:

Week 1: Buffalo Bills

Week 2: at Pittsburgh Steelers

Week 3: at Miami Dolphins

Week 4: San Francisco 49ers

Week 5: Houston Texans

The first five games include three playoff teams from last year: the Steelers, 49ers and Texans.
