Osi Umenyiora has come to regret the seven-year, $41 million contract he signed in 2005, and the New York Giants don’t appear to be in any rush to pacify the defensive end with a new, richer deal.

The signs are pointing to Osi Umenyiora not playing this season with the New York Giants. The defensive end was not with the team when they were given their Super Bowl rings, and has been absent from OTAs as his agent negotiates with the team for a new deal. Umenyiora is due $4 million in the final year of a 7-year, $41 million contract, one that he considers to be a great underpayment, yet the Giants do not appear willing to give him a substantial raise moving forward.
If Umenyiora holds out into training camp and the regular season the Giants might be forced to move him, at which point they likely can’t expect more than a 2nd round pick in return.
