Perhaps it was just the after-effects of a bitter playoff series, but Zach Parise not only reiterated his desire to stay with the Devils despite being due to hit unrestricted free agency in less than three weeks, but also said that there’s “no way” he’d sign with the arch-rival New York Rangers, to whom he has already been linked by none other than his own father.
While the intention may be noble, it’s hard to imagine Parise’s agent being too thrilled about his apparent elimination of one of the richest teams and most attractive destinations in the NHL. Parise is a perfect fit in New York, and having the Rangers involved in the bidding process can at the very least serve to drive up the price on other teams.
