Red Sox Intensify Efforts To Trade Youkilis

In what is a telling indicator of both the quality that both Kevin Youkilis and the Red Sox as a whole have displayed this season, the team is trying harder than ever to trade the veteran infielder, but so far have not found many takers. Youkilis was hitting just .219 when he went on the disabled list at the end of April, and after a brief hot streak that saw the average climb as high as .253, it has now dropped back to .215 with a .301 OBP and .341 SLG. And of course, his long injury history is an indicator that he could be headed back to the DL at any moment going forward.

According to FoxSports, the Sox are talking to any and all interested parties, but will probably have to include a hefty sum of cash along with him if they want any kind of serviceable players to come back in return. Youkilis will make over $7 million for the remainder of the season plus a team option worth $13m in 2013 with a $1m buyout.

The White Sox, Dodgers, Indians, and Pirates have been mentioned as teams with interest in Youkilis, but don’t count out the Detroit Tigers either, as they are in the market for a right-handed bat.

The Red Sox have intensified their efforts to trade Kevin Youkilis over the past 24-48 hours, according to Jon Paul Morosi and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. One high-ranking National League official told the FOX Sports duo that Youkilis is being “shopped everywhere.”
