The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly close to finalizing a deal with veteran safety Oshiomogho “OJ” Atogwe. Atogwe was released by the Washington Redskins after last season for cap related reasons, and played his first six years in the NFL as a member of the St. Louis Rams. In his 7-year career, Atogwe has compiled 450 tackles, 5.5 sacks and 25 interceptions.
Atogwe is a solid pick-up for an Eagles defense that struggled across the board last year. He brings a veteran presence to a defense that sorely lacked a leader, is excellent at playing center field, and will hopefully shore up a secondary that was downright disappointing last season despite having a slew of big names.
The Eagles still have to address their linebacker corps, but the secondary now has little shortage of depth and talent.
