Plaxico Burress is a man without a team right now, as the Jets have cut ties and there have been few other organizations expressing interest in the veteran receiver, who will be 35 years old this season. However, that hasn’t stopped him from making a pitch to the Carolina Panthers to bring him aboard as another passing option for Cam Newton.
In truth, Burress would be a very good fit in Carolina. With Steve Smith- still on board as the go-to guy, Burress would be able to settle in comfortably as the second or third receiver. He is still a great red zone target at 6’5”, and he proved last season that he can still be an effective player in the NFL by catching 45 passes for 612 yards and 8 touchdowns. An expert route-runner with soft hands, the addition of Burress could help Newton improve on his 60% accuracy rating last season.
