More bad news for the Colorado Rockies and their star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, as the two-time All-Star is to be out 8 weeks due to groin surgery. After being plagued with injuries in the first half of this season, an MRI revealed that scar tissue is irritating the area around Tulowitzki’s groin. The only way to fix the problem is to have the Gold Glove shortstop go under the knife.
Life without Tulo has been hard on the Rockies already; they’ve lost 12 of their last 13 games in his absence. He’s been the centerpiece to a rebuilding franchise eager to return to the postseason following their magical 2008 World Series berth. Tulowkitzki has a career line of .292/.364/.504 and an OPS of .868. He knocked in 105 RBIs last season, a career high, and is the backbone of a lineup that leads the NL in runs and RBIs.
It goes without saying, this loss likely buries any chance of a second half resurgence from the plummeting Rockies.
