NHL salary cap rises to $70.2M

As expected, the NHL salary cap was raised by nearly $6 million dollars from last season, going from $64.3 million to $70.2m. The cap floor rose by the same amount as well, as the minimum amount that teams will have to spend in 2012-13 will be $54.2 million. This happens in spite of pending labor talks that could eventually lead to a lockout during the offseason. But as now, teams will begin the free agency period on July 1 with eased limitations.
