Defensive end Andre Carter wants to be back in New England, but the Patriots aren’t entirely sold yet. The 33-year-old veteran registered 10 sacks last year before a torn quad in Week 15 ended his season, and his recovery from the injury hasn’t been enough to convince the Pats that he is worth a multi-year commitment to bring back.
Carter was named to the Pro Bowl last year while playing on a one-year, $2.75 million contract and is looking for a substantial raise despite the fact that he almost certainly won’t be ready to begin the 2012 season on time. He did receive interest from other teams earlier in the offseason but rebuffed them due to his desire to remain with the Patriots. If the two sides can’t come to a decision soon, however, he’ll have to go back to those other interested parties and probably settle for less money than was originally offered.
