40-year-old Ray Whitney proved that he can still play at a very high level last year, scoring 77 points (24 goals, 53 assists) while playing all 82 games with the Phoenix Coyotes, and the Dallas Stars clearly believe that he won’t be slowing down any time soon. Dallas signed him to a two-year, $9 million deal on Sunday just hours after free agency began, meaning that Whitney will stay in the Pacific Division for the foreseeable future.
Dallas is Whitney’s 8th stop in a 20-year NHL career that began back in the 1991-92 season with the Sharks, but he’s playing at as high of a level as he ever has. His 77 points last season tied the second-highest total of his career, and it was just the second time that he appeared in all 82 games.
