Could our long national nightmare really be over? Has the unending string of rumors about a potential Dwight Howard trade finally be over? Probably not for long, but for the time being, people can relax their constant Twitter watch and enjoy some other aspects of life. That’s because according to multiple sources, the Magic and Nets have broken off trade talks after several attempts to bring a third and fourth team into the deal.
The issue for Brooklyn was centered around their inability to take on Howard’s salary, hence the need for other teams to come aboard to take on some of the Nets’ cap burden. The Cavaliers, Rockets, and Lakers were all brought into the discussions over the past few days to see if some combination could be worked out in which the Nets could shed some salary, but no real progress was made. Now it appears that both Brooklyn and Orlando are ready to move on, the Nets by extending Brook Lopez and Kris Humphries, and the Magic by continuing their search for a coach to replace Stan Van Gundy.
On the plus side of things, perhaps Howard will now learn that the basketball world doesn’t revolve entirely around himself. Meanwhile, Joe Johnson just realized that he better be worth it.
