Joey Porter to retire as a Steeler

Linebacker Joey Porter has informally announced his retirement, and that he plans on retiring with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team with whome he spent the first 8 years of his career. He said he has been in conversation with the Steelers organization, and feels honored to have the opportunity to retire with the team that helped him develop into the player he was. The average NFL career only lasts about 3.5 years, but Porter played 13 seasons in the NFL, although he was limited to just 6 games last season due to knee injury that required surgery.

In addition to his 8 seasons in Pittsburgh, Porter played 3 seasons in Miamo, where he had a career high 17.5 sacks in 2008, and he played his final two years in Arizona. Porter was a 4-time Pro Bowler, in 2002 he was a first team All-Pro linebacker, and in 2006 he won a Super Bowl with the Steelers. At 35 years old and coming off of season-ending knee surgery, one of the NFL's biggest bad boys has finally decided to call it quits. He plans on taking his experience and knowledge of the game into the booth as an analyst.

Linebacker Joey Porter played for three teams over the course of a 13-year career. Porter knows which organization he wants to end with. Porter told me today that he plans to retire as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
