Mets won't compromise future with trade

There is no shortage of areas in which the Mets can improve as they try to remain among the playoff contenders in the National League: bullpen, outfield, bench, and starting pitching are places where the Mets can use an upgrade. But team management, led by GM Sandy Alderson doesn’t seem too intent on mortgaging the future for an outside chance to win this year.

Mets fans remember all too well the trades made for Victor Zambrano and Kris Benson back in the summer of 2004 when the team’s stated goal was to play “meaningful games” in the Fall. Some of the players who headed out in those deals included future HR champ Jose Bautista, pitcher Scott Kazmir, and useful role player Ty Wigginton, and the best thing the Mets got out of it was plenty of shots of Anna Benson’s neckline.

With elite pitching prospects like Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler, and Jeurys Familia, the Mets have a strong farm system to build around, and they’re not about to send them away for an outside chance to win this season.

According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, there aren't any trades the Mets could make that would benefit the team this season without the team compromising their future.
