Wallace a no-show; Steelers suspend negotiations

In a report for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ed Bouchette says that the contract negotiations between the Steelers and Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Wallace have been broken off by the team after Wallace informed them that he will not be reporting to training camp on time. Wallace is reportedly seeking a multi-year deal that will pay him in the vicinity of the highest paid wide receivers in the league (franchise tag designation is ~$9.5 million), but right now the only thing on the table is a one-year offer for $2.472 million.

Over the past two decades, the Steelers’ front office has never been one to let players strong arm them in contract negotiations, so if Wallace expects a camp holdout to accomplish very much, he may be in for a very rude awakening.

Receiver takes stand by not reporting to training camp on time; now Steelers take one of their own as contract impasse continues.
