Tigers in midst of toughest stretch of the season

After a blistering stretch that began before the All-Star break and saw them jump into first place in the AL Central, the Tigers have since struggled against tough opponents like Cleveland and Toronto, dropping four of their last six and falling a game and a half behind the White Sox in the division race. And things aren’t going to get any easier with their next two-week stretch.

Beginning with a series that starts on Monday night in Boston, the Tigers will then host seven games against the Indians and Yankees before a three-game series in Arlington against the Rangers.

All told, it will make 29 straight games since the All-Star break against teams that have .500 records or better, and an average winning percentage as of Monday of .535. It’s safe to say that this is very much a make-or-break stretch for the Tigers, not only for their place in the standings but for the team psyche as well. As popular preseason favorites, Detroit was a disappointment for much of the first three months before turning it on at the beginning of July. But as that hot streak starts to fade, they can prove themselves worthy of that favorite status if they can ramp it up once again.
