Redskins lose Jonathan Goff for the season

The Washington Redskins figured that Jonathan Goff would be a great depth linebacker behind starting MLB London Fletcher when they signed him as a free agent this spring. But that plan was dashed on Saturday when the veteran was lost for the second straight season with a torn ACL. Goff, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Giants, missed all of their Super Bowl winning season last year after tearing his ACL in practice prior to Week 1 and was not brought back during the offseason. Ironically, the injury occurred just two days before Giants corner Terrell Thomas, who also missed last year with a torn ACL, suffered an injury to his surgically repaired ligament as well and might be done for the year.

The ‘Skins will also lose guard Kory Lichtensteiger for a few months after he had to have surgery to clear out some particles in his knee. Lichtensteiger tore his ACL and MCL in the right knee last year, and though the team said they are fine, they wanted to play it safe and have the knee scoped now so that he can get back on the field in the first month of the season.

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said backup linebacker Jonathan Goff suffered a torn ACL Saturday and is done for the season.

Meanwhile, guard Kory Lichtensteiger had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
