The Giants receiving corps may be a little thin at the top during the preseason with No. 1 target Hakeem Nicks sidelined with a broken foot that he suffered in May during minicamp, but he is now ready to start running some routes and should be on target to play in the season opener against the Cowboys on September 5.
Nicks finished second on the team in most major receiving categories to breakout star Victor Cruz last year, but his size, hands, and overall ability mean that he’s still the guy that opposing defenses have to worry about the most. The double teams that he drew throughout the year opened up the middle of the field for Cruz and the Giants’ other receiving targets, so any time that he misses will be a serious blow to the Giants’ offense.
