The Miami Marlins have activated right fielder Giancarlo Stanton from the DL after he missed the entire month of July due to knee surgery. Since Stanton’s injury the Marlins have sunk to the bottom of the NL East, tied with the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite his absence, Stanton still leads the Marlins in both HRs (19) and RBIs (50).
While Stanton adds some juice to a struggling Marlins team, it’s safe to say that his return is likely too little too late as far as the playoffs are concerned. At 49-60, the Marlins are 13.5 games back from the last Wild Card spot and have less than a 1% chance to make the playoffs according to Coolstandings.com.
Still, as a young and exciting player, the experience Stanton will gain by playing the rest of the season far outweighs the threat of re-injury.
