Daniel Nava set to return from disabled list

With outfielder Carl Crawford now out due to impending Tommy John surgery, the Boston Red Sox have activated Daniel Nava off of the DL. Nava has been out with a sprained wrist since July.

After starting off red hot in May (.312/.425 /.472 through 41 games), Nava slumped into June with a line of .139/.262/.250 in his last 24 games before landing on the disabled list. If Nava’s lackluster performance was correlated with his wrist trouble, then the Sox might not be losing much in the way of production in left field.

In either case, losing your $142M asset for the season (overpaid or not) is nothing but bad news. Especially considering that Crawford had been showing signs of the elite play that landed him that monster deal not two years ago.

Nick Cafardo is reporting that Daniel Nava will be activated off the disabled list today to replace Carl Crawford on the roster.
