The Pittsburgh Pirates were the surprise of the Major Leagues for the first half of the season, playing at or near the top of the National League Central Division. It was a welcome change for the franchise that has endured a record 18 straight losing seasons. So even if they didn’t make the playoffs, finishing .500 or better would have been the most success that any Pittsburgh fan could have imagined. As of August 15, however, after losing three straight and eight of their last ten games, the Pirates find themselves 7 games below the .500 mark, and it appears that they’re luck has finally regressed to their talent level.
