You can add right field to the positions that Minnesota Twins star Joe Mauer has played, as the former MVP winning catcher got his first career start in the outfield on Thursday night against the New York Yankees. He had only seen time behind the plate and at designated hitter prior to the 2011 season, but has already played 12 games at first base this year.
Finding a new position is essential for the Twins’ franchise player if they want to prolong his career. The team signed Mauer to an 8-year, $184 million contract prior to last season, and can’t afford to have him get his career cut short by the chronic knee problems that tend to come with the catcher position.
