The Milwaukee Brewers are surging, riding a four-game winning streak into Tuesday night’s game thanks in large part to the continued stellar play of outfielder and MVP candidate Ryan Braun. Braun has been red-hot since the All-Star break, hitting .360 with a 1.054 OPS in the second half, and overtook New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes for the NL batting lead over the Labor Day weekend. Reyes has been first in the league since June, but has cooled off since a pair of stints on the disabled list over the summer, seeing his average fall from a season-high .354 on July 2 to its current mark of .332.
Neither the Mets nor the Brewers have ever had a batting champion.
